Parkridge Medical Center completes 500th heart implant procedure
The Parkridge cardiac team achieved a milestone with their 500th LAAC procedure, a minimally invasive technique that reduces stroke risk by preventing clots.
The Parkridge Medical Center cardiac services team recently completed its 500th left atrial appendage closure (LAAC) implant procedure. The minimally invasive procedure reduces the risk of stroke by sealing the left atrial appendage of the heart and preventing clots from migrating to the brain.
“The accomplishment highlights the remarkable work being done by the team at Centennial Heart at Parkridge Medical Center,” said Alison Bailey, M.D., chief of cardiology at Centennial Heart at Parkridge Medical Center. “I am extremely proud of our physicians and colleagues for the extraordinary work they do in providing exceptional cardiac care for the Chattanooga community.”
Parkridge Medical Center was the first Chattanooga hospital to offer the procedure in 2017. The procedure is ideal for patients with atrial fibrillation who are at high risk of stroke and cannot tolerate long-term anticoagulation therapy.
