Orthopedic care
Orthopedists are doctors who take care of the entire musculoskeletal system. They diagnose and treat conditions such sprains, strains, broken bones, arthritis and osteoporosis. Some of the treatments they offer include recommending lifestyle changes, applying casts and performing surgeries, such as ligament repairs or total joint replacements.

Joint replacement surgeries
Although nonsurgical care is always prioritized, in certain instances, it can be ineffective. If we have exhausted all nonsurgical treatments, joint replacement surgery can be your most viable option for improvement. The prospect of surgery can be daunting, but we use minimally invasive surgical techniques whenever possible, providing you with less pain, minimal scarring and a shorter hospital stay, which allows you to recover in the comfort of your home.
Your treatment plan begins with helping you understand what to expect from your procedure, and our joint preoperative education classes help you prepare before, during and after your procedure. Types of joint replacement procedures you may learn about include:
- Hip replacement — Based on your unique condition and health needs, our care team may recommend partial or total hip replacement surgery. There are three primary approaches your surgeon may use, including anterior (from the front), posterior (from the rear) or lateral (side incision).
- Knee replacement — This procedure replaces the ball and socket joint of the knee with an implant that works to restore movement and mobility. Our knee surgeons also perform joint resurfacing, which fills in cartilage and smooths the joint area, without making significant structural change.
- Shoulder replacement — Shoulder replacement surgery can be recommended when severe pain or immobility can't be remedied by therapy or medication. The procedure may involve partial or total joint replacement with a prothesis, or may be accomplished with joint resurfacing.
